Protecting Your Property After A Break-In

Replacing A Lock Barrel

A break-in is undoubtedly going to make you feel a bit worried, even after it’s been dealt with. To help you feel a bit safer, we’ve put together a few steps you can take to improve your home security and decrease the chances of it happening again.

Upgrade Your Locks

Modern locks will be more effective than old, deteriorating ones. If you can’t remember when you got your locks installed, it may be time to purchase new ones. Look for locks which are compatible with your doors and windows, and which are approved by the British Standards Institute (BSI).

If you want some extra security, you could add a chain or deadlock to your front door. As well as that, you can consider installing shutters or security grilles on your windows.

Add Security Measures

You can boost the security of your home by adding some simple and relatively cheap accessories. A motion-activated floodlight will help to deter criminals, particularly when it’s dark. You can also install security gates to make it more difficult for intruders to get onto your property. If you don’t have gates, you may find that a smart doorbell with a camera will suffice. This will help you to keep an eye on what’s going on at your front door, even if you’re not at home.

Protect From Prying Eyes

Burglars are much less likely to strike when they can’t identify the contents of a property. Consider adding curtains and shades which obscure the view inside your property. As well as that, make sure you’re not displaying anything expensive or otherwise tempting to criminals. This may mean rearranging your garden ornaments so they aren’t visible to those who are passing. Although this may seem like a shame, it’s much safer for you to make your home look as unappealing as possible if you want to deter criminals.
